History of Pactio Cards Part 3: Anime Pactio Cards

Okay...so here's the situation. The story of Negima was progressing, however, the anime was slated for only 26 episodes which caused a LOT of problems.

One of them being the issue of Pactio Cards. Now, during the time Negi only had four partners: Asuna, Nodoka, Setsuna and Konoka (currently he now has 15, including one NTR). However, in the anime, Negi only had one partner, Asuna. And for a LOOONG time, nobody else.

AND THEN THEY RELEASED THE LAST EPISODE

Now some of you might be scratching your heads and wondering, "Hey wait a minute, we only have cards for 16 of the students. How'd they come up with the others?" Guess what. You just answered your own question. THEY MADE THEM UP ON THE SPOT. And given that this is the last episode and already a 3rd of the way through it, you can imagine how much the powers get scrunched into a small block of time...well you can pretty much see for yourself that this is all there is. What with each ability pretty much reduced to a single attack.

But now that the last episode has passed you can forget about this abortion of a show and move on with your life right? RIGHT? Apparently not, because the anime writers decided to imitate Akamatsu and come up with their own Pactio Cards to promote their DVDs. And hey 3 cards per DVD!

That was so mindblowing, I'll say it again!

THE ANIMATORS CAME UP WITH THEIR OWN DESIGN FOR PACTIO CARDS BECAUSE AKAMATSU DIDN'T DESIGN THEM ALL FAST ENOUGH!! THANKS A BUNCH ASSHOLES!

Jesus, not only do they do the most generic Pactio Orgy, monster kill, they also have the nerve to pass their so called creativity as part of the Negima Universe. I mean good God just LOOK AT THEM. Anyone who can rub two sticks together can see that the artwork is completely different. But even putting that aside, compare the information of the cards! They don't have ANY of the same information as the real ones! And once you see Akamatsu's version you get a better scope of just how shitty these anime pactio Cards really are!

Observe!

Roman Numeral - Roman Numeral
Color - Birthmonth
Name in Latin - Name in English
Title - Nothing
Direction - A fucking serial number!
Virtue - Jack Shit!
Astral Sign - Planet Name

Thankfully, this is all you'll get as far as anime Pactio Cards. And with Akamatsu filling the gaps bit by bit, we'll get a chance to see the girls get their moment to shine in the spotlight that extends beyond "Aqua Splash!".
Next time, put on your collectors caps, grab your pokeballs because you GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL! And I don't mean the Pokemon in Black + White.

  1. This is all very true. I was most epically pissed with the FUCKING SERIAL NUMBERS. Seriously? They couldnt BS to at least look a LITTLE like the original cards? Ugggg I really really hated the ending of the anime for the reason they didn't show us shit battles. I also hated the half-assed art. T3T

The only thing I'd give them was the making of Chao's card since she's now out of the story (for now?) but I can't even do THAT cause everyone knows hers would look somewhat similar to the outfit she wore while fighting Negi. Forget the traditional Chinese bullshit, she's a Martian! XD

  2. I don't think Chao's out of the picture yet. She'll be back. But the thing about the actual cards is they explore an aspect about the girls you don't expect. Chachamaru's Anime Card has her using...stronger homing lasers. The actual card itself gives us a cat theme, reminding us how much Chachamaru loves cats. Granted it's another laser firing artifact, but one VERY different than you'd expect.

  3. I think everyone's pretty harsh on the first anime adaptation of Negima. Sure, the art was weird, sure it rushed Kyoto, sure they pulled he ending out of their asses, but it has good points too (Happy Material is still used, it WAS an anime people wanted, Asuna's Death as an idea is pretty interesting and the cliffhanger of Yue kissing Negi was amazing).

I just don't see why the hate for these Pactios. Granted, they should have asked Akamatsu to do them or at least for they to have the same effect Akamatsu would use, but they're only a plot point...

Overall, the anime WAS bad, can't argue that. But C'mon, Kaze no Stigma was worse...
